O2 deny widely reported free MacBook rumour
O2 have officially announced that the current free/discounted MacBook/O2 Mobile Broadband rumour is just that. An O2 spokeswoman yesterday confirmed that there are “no such plans to launch an Apple MacBook laptop offer,” and that the rumours are “untrue”.
As we all know, O2, who along with Carphone Warehouse, hold exclusive carriage rights to the iPhone, were thought to have worked out a deal with Apple which would see them match the current slew of free laptop offers available from mobile broadband providers and network rivals T-Mobile, Vodafone, 3 Mobile and Orange.

However, this turned out to be balderdash. Admittedly, here at Mobile Phones, we did have our suspicions. Standard MacBooks range from around £500-600, and the asking price of the free laptops currently available on mobile broadband deals is significantly lower than that. Factor this in with Apple’s notorious prelediction for tightly controlling the sale of their hardware, and it just seemed far too good to be true; if the deal was going to go ahead, chances are the world and its dog would have heard about it six months ago.
Still, something to talk about over a cinnamon chai latte at Starbucks, eh?

Instead of ‘DENIED’ stamped across the screen, it would look much better with a giant ‘FAIL’.

Doesn’t all Apple hardware come with a giant ‘FAIL’ pre-installed anyway?
