The chief executive of BlackBerry has made critical remarks about Apple's iPhone, it has emerged.
According to reports, Mike Lazaridis of BlackBerry has noted that despite the benefits of the product, the lack of a keyboard will present a number of limitations and that there is no real way to substitute its omission.
However, Apple won praise for making the strengths of a smartphone more visible to consumers.
"The iPhone has severe limitations when it comes to effortless typing," said Mr Lazaridis.
"Of course you have more screen space, with more artistic interactions, but that's not enough. We've seen this before when Palm tried virtual keyboards," he added.
Mr Lazaridis made his comments last week in Canada.
Although the iPhone has been available in the US since June 2007, it will not be released in the UK until tomorrow (November 9th) - O2 has been confirmed as the sole carrier in the UK.
In France, the iPhone will be exclusively sold through Orange, owned by France Telecom.
