Apple's iPhone outsold all other smart phones on the US market in the month of July, new figures show.
The two models of the iPhone outsold models by BlackBerry and Palm during the month, research group iSuppli has said.
A massive marketing push surrounded the launch of the iPhone; sales of which now account for 1.8 per cent of the US phone market, equalling that of the LG Chocolate phone. ISuppli predicts sales of the iPhone to reach 4.5 million in the US this year, with 30 million sold by 2011.
ISuppli said in a statement: "While iSuppli has not collected historical information on this topic, it's likely that the speed of the iPhone's rise to competitive dominance in its segment is unprecedented in the history of the mobile-handset market."
The iPhone is the first mobile phone handset to be produced by Apple. Users can browse the internet, listen to music on a similar version of Apple's iPod and take pictures.
