LG Electronics has announced that it has developed a low-cost mobile television alternative for the USA, according to reports.
The company is showcasing at this week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, where it will be demonstrating the mobile-pedestrian-handheld technology.
LG states that the system uses existing airwaves, thus offering a cheaper alternative before the digital switchover in February 2009, reports Bloomberg.
Woo Paik, LG electronics chief technology officer, explained to the news provider: "National deployment can be done instantaneously'' because the technology uses existing airwaves.
It is estimated that LG have invested around $7.5 million (£3.8 million) in the technology as it hopes it will promote the sale of products such as notebook computers in the US market.
The company has also been exploring other technological developments with the launch of a 60-inch flat-panel television expected this year.
