It has been revealed that mobile phone customers will now be able to make calls on Emirates flights, according to the BBC.
A system developed by AeroMobile has been installed on their aircraft which presents interference with electronic equipment, for more-flexible mobile phone use.
Chief executive of AeroMobile Bjorn-Taale Sandberg explained: "We have gone to considerable lengths to ensure that all safety and regulatory issues have been fully addressed."
However, mobiles will have to be kept on silent and use will be monitored by the cabin crew for the comfort of other passengers.
The news has not been welcomed by all, as the Telegraph has launched a campaign "say 'no' to in-flight mobile phones", which argues that the introduction of phones on planes could cause annoyance and potential safety issues.
As part of the campaign, some readers said they would change the airline they use if mobile phones were allowed on flights.
