The chief executive of Finnish mobile phone manufacturer Nokia has stated that the firm is not complacent despite its dominance of the market.
When asked about the emergence of Google's so-called Gphone, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo said that Nokia was not "on the defensive".
Nokia is currently the largest manufacturer of mobile phones and smartphones in the world, but its dominance of the smartphone market is coming under increasing pressure, reports the Seattle Times.
Mr Kallasvuo commented: "I think if you look at the new industry that is happening here, there is so much possibility and so much challenge. I think it is a challenge to everyone."
He stated that Apple's iPhone is "a very good design" but said that the huge number of consumers meant that a range of different products was necessary.
This, he noted, was one of the keys to Nokia's dominance of the market at the moment because it produces a variety of handsets.
On the other hand, Apple only has one mobile phone on the market at the moment, and despite the impressive sales, it does not offer buyers the variety that Nokia does.
The Nokia chief executive said that his firm's strategy was to go for "all relevant markets", and not to look for a "one size fits all" mobile communications solution.
He noted that Nokia has been very successful in capturing emerging markets and said that the scale, design and price points offered by the company were key to this.
In related news, the new Nokia 2228 CDMA mobile phone - which features a media player, messaging service and 1.3-megapixel camera - is set to hit the shelves later this year.
