New software enabling owners of the iPhone to turn their handset into a remote control has been unveiled by Apple.
The AirRemote application can convert an iPhone device into a universal controller capable of operating TV sets, light switches and even electric blinds, Techradar.com reports.
Also compatible with the iPod touch, the software works using WiFi networks and has been described by creator Steven Moore as "the greatest little TV remote you've ever used".
Speaking about using the AirRemote with Apple's flagship products, he said: "The beauty of the iPod touch or iPhone versus other tablets is that it has bullet-proof WiFi, doesn't need to wait for Windows to boot up and can be held in a hand."
The application is set to retail at £50 and will be available at the new Apple Apps Store from July 11th. People wanting to control products which are not WiFi-enabled will need to by a Global Cache box, expected to cost about £150.
July 11th is also the date that the new iPhone 3G launches in the UK.
