Industry experts are predicting a high level of demand for the iPhone 3G due to recent internet search statistics.
Research from comScore reveals that, during April this year, 6.9 million searches were conducted for iPhone-related terms in the US alone.
With these searches taking place before Apple chief Steve Jobs announced the launch of the iPhone 3G earlier this month, comScore's Dan Lackner said that interest in the smartphone is likely to continue growing.
"The increase in volume of iPhone searches demonstrates just how heavy interest has been for the next generation of Apple's popular phone even when its existence was still just a rumour," he stated.
According to the data, the most popular internet search term was 'iPhone', with many users also searching for 'iPhone update' and 'iPhone 3G'.
Consumers on this side of the Atlantic can get their hands on Apple's new handset from July 11th, when it is launched in the UK by exclusive carrier O2.
