Sony unveils mobile gaming plans

Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Sudios (SCE WWS) has announced that it has selected Player X to publish a new set of games for a mobile phone, including Buzz! and Destruction Derby.

The Buzz! franchise will be the first title released and will be available in autumn 2008 with Destruction Derby close behind at the start of 2009.

Sony has signed a three-year deal with the award-winning mobile media firm Player X.

This is the first time that the company has licensed any of its titles to be distributed by a third party on mobiles.

Michael Denny, vice president of SCE WWS Europe, commented: "The creative proposals that came through from Player X were very encouraging and in line with what we are hoping to do with these two licences."

The new iPhone has reinvigorated the mobile gaming with recent figures showing that ten million applications were downloaded from Apple's online store within three days of it going on sale, reports Screen Digest.
