The number of information searches being made on mobile phones for UK-specific information has fallen in recent months, new research has shown.
According to the Q2 Mobile Local Search Index 2007 from m-spatial, the number of internet searches for scenic locations fell by 37 per cent, while 16 per cent less searches were also conducted for places of historical or cultural interest.
The wet summer weather is the most likely reason for this shift, Cellular-News.com reports, with many people looking to escape the UK and enjoy warmer climes - travel agent searches was one of the only categories to show an increase, rising by 137 per cent.
Andy Walker, m-spatial chief executive officer, commented: "The results for quarter two show how unpredictable weather affects what people are looking for.
"The poor start to the summer resulted in a substantial increase in people looking for foreign holidays and a significant drop in people looking to spend days out in the UK."
According to a report by Ofcom, 13 per cent of mobile users in the UK regularly use their handsets to access internet services.
