Babies are being introduced to technology at a very early age, as 100,000 ultrasound scans are sent every year via mobile phone or email before they are born, according to research by Orange.
Mobile phones are being used as a way to spread good news, as one in five parents send a picture of their newborn within ten minutes of the birth using tools such as picture messaging. Some 48 per cent send a message within the hour.
Head of multimedia at Orange Paul Burns said: "We'd urge fathers against filling the hospital bag with lenses, filters and flashguns - your camera phone should more than suffice - just make sure you wait until you're outside before you send it."
It was also revealed that 21 per cent of parents have created a social networking site such as Facebook or MySpace for their baby, sites which can also be accessed by a 3G phone from hospital.
The use of mobile phones appears to continue from this young age, with Child Alert stating that nine out of ten children now own a mobile phone.
