Luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer has announced that it is to launch its first mobile phone next year.
The Swiss company, which is owned by France-based LVMH, will work with manufacturing firm Modelabs to bring out the handset during the second half of 2008, Reuters reports.
In a statement, TAG Heuer chief executive Christophe Babin said that the firm had decided to take its first step into the high-end mobile phone market - which currently includes handsets from Armani and Prada - after seeing the success of its luxury eyewear range.
"The success of this line, already market leader in luxury eyewear, confirmed for us the potential of TAG Heuer as a brand for contemporary, technological and timeless products ... such as luxury mobile phones," he commented.
Armani's mobile phone is manufactured by Japanese firm Samsung, while Prada's luxury handset was produced in partnership with Korea-based LG.
