Nokia has pledged to improve its environmental record by joining the WWF Climate Savers programme, which could interest mobile phone users with an interest in green issues.
The mobile phone company has already set targets in its climate change strategy, which are reinforced by the WWF initiative, a scheme which addresses climate change.
The international director-general of WWF James Leape spoke about the importance of companies such as Nokia taking their environmental responsibilities seriously.
"When a global brand with a high consumer profile gets on board with enthusiastic climate action it reinforces the messages that we need to act globally and quickly on climate change and we can act globally and quickly," said Mr Leape.
Nokia has already pledged to reduce its energy consumption by three to five per cent annually in all its office, research and development departments.
The company also encourages recycling, via its Nokia Service take back points which allow mobile phone users to recycle their old phones.
