Nokia reveals the future for mobiles

By Editorial Team (Tuesday, 23rd October 2007)

The world's largest mobile phone manufacturer has unveiled its predictions for the future of the mobile phone.

According to Nokia, the future for the industry will concentrate on the convergence of the mobile phone and the internet with virtual worlds, such as Second Life, being fully accessible from handsets.

Internet technologies will drive the innovation of the mobile phone, while future energy sources for handsets could vary, Nokia announced at a briefing at its research centre. Language translation devices and wireless mobile payment technologies are also expected to be introduced.

Tero Ojanpera, chief technology officer at Nokia, said: "The world of mobile communications is changing at an ever increasing pace. To continue to stay ahead in this environment and to develop innovative new products and services that excite consumers, companies need to embrace openness on many levels."

Earlier this month, shops across the UK started receiving Nokia's new N81 and N95 handsets.
