Speculation that O2 is to be sole UK iPhone seller

Speculation that O2 is to be sole UK iPhone seller

By Editorial Team (Tuesday, 31st July 2007)

Mobile phone firm O2 has hinted that it may be the UK's exclusive carrier of the iPhone.

Speaking to the Independent earlier, O2's chief executive Peter Erksine commented on the phone, developed by Apple.

"We're excited about this product and we certainly hope to be marketing it later in the year when it launches," he stated.

However, the publication adds that O2 failed to precisely confirm that it had won the rights to exclusively sell the handset in the UK.

The Times has also covered the subject, stating earlier this month that the firm had beaten rivals to win the contract.

It added that it expected the product to be available for purchase by Christmas and O2 should be able to attract and retain many new customers as a result.

The Telefonica-owned firm recently posted a rise in revenue of 10.4 per cent after managing to convert many customers to contract deals from pre-paid options.
