Network provider Orange has unveiled an innovative phone charging system which it claims is perfect for the start of the UK festival season.
Developed in conjunction with renewable energy specialist GotWind, the Orange Dance Charge is able to power up a mobile handset using energy from a user's physical movements.
The device is housed in an elasticated strap worn on the bicep, storing power from the kinetic energy generated as the user dances. This power is kept in a reservoir battery and can later be used to charge a mobile phone.
A prototype version of the Dance Charge, which has been described by Orange's Hattie Magee as a "fun, engaging and interactive product", will be trialled among revellers at this weekend's Glastonbury Festival.
Mobile owners at the Somerset event will also have the opportunity to use Orange's eco-friendly charge tent, which uses energy from solar panels and wind turbines to boost flagging handset batteries. The festival begins on Friday June 27th.
