According to recently published data by Gartner, Samsung has become the world's second largest manufacturer of mobile phones, pushing ahead of Motorola but still leaving Nokia in first place.

"The third quarter saw Samsung gain the number two position taking advantage of Motorola's continued weak performance," she added.
Gartner also found that, worldwide, sales of mobile phone handsets have increased by 15 per cent over the last 12 months to 289 million units.
