Samsung's Pixon will be 'quick and easy'

By Editorial Team (Wednesday, 1st October 2008)

Samsung's new M8800 Pixon camera phone will make the task of taking photos "easier and more fun", the Korean manufacturer has claimed.

The M8800 has been dubbed the Pixon as a play on the term 'pics on' and that perhaps signifies where Samsung's priorities for the handset were.

It includes an eight-megapixel camera equipped with an array of functions, such as x16 digital zoom, face detection and auto focus.

A reviewer from T3 recently said of the M8800: "We're not sure if this is a phone with camera or a camera with phone."

Mark Mitchinson, Samsung Mobile UK and Ireland's vice president, made no apologies for the focus on photographic innovation.

"Now everyone will be able to get their pics on so much more quickly and easily. For the first time you will have a camera on your phone capable of delivering the quality of image of a regular camera," he said.

Previous camera phones have enabled users to capture and share shots easily, but few enabled them to get the kind of quality of photograph Pixon will offer, Mr Mitchinson added.

In addition to the camera, the slimline handset, which goes on sale on November 1st, has a touchscreen interface.

Samsung is releasing the Pixon at a time when competition in the touchscreen phone market is growing rapidly.

The iPhone is the best known touchscreen handset available, but it will soon be joined in the shops by the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, LG KP500 and T-Mobile G1, which is more commonly referred to as the Google or Android phone.
