Mobile phone firm Ericsson and analogue and digital signal processing firm Texas Instruments (TI) have announced that they will team up to produce solutions for 3G devices which are open operating system enabled.
Ericsson will provide 3G modems while TI will offer microprocessors for multimedia applications as part of its OMAP capabilities.
According to the firms, the deal will allow handset makers to deliver the technologies being increasingly demanded by consumers.
The result of the venture should be a portfolio of wireless mobile platforms which integrate the modem and application process.
Robert Puskaric, head of Ericsson's mobile platforms' unit, said: "Ericsson is clear in its commitment to design and offer a portfolio of flexible, innovative mobile platforms that address the requirements of the rapidly evolving mobile device market."
The mobile phone firm recently stated that it was outpacing the market and had seen "encouraging" year over year sales increases over the last quarter.
