Sony Ericsson has teamed up with Eastman Kodak, Hitachi, Nikon and Samsung, among others, to develop new wireless technology for mobile phones and other media devices.
Known as TransferJet, the new interoperable wireless transfer technology enables the rapid transfer (560 Mbps) of high resolution music, images and video.
The new technology means that consumers can send files simply by putting one device next to another.
For example, downloaded music content can be transferred by placing a mobile phone against a portable audio player.
Sony Ericsson and the rest of the consortium hope to promote a wide range of products and services that incorporate TransferJet technology.
According to techradar.com, TransferJet is different from Bluetooth or Wireless USB as it focuses on short-range connections of 3 cm or less, which reduces the possibility of interception.
