Sony may be splitting with Ericsson

By Editorial Team (Thursday, 4th September 2008)

Recent reports suggest that Sony is currently looking for a way to end its partnership with Ericsson.

A German newspaper recently quoted the chief executive of Sony saying that the firm was considering going its own way in the sector, reports Mobile Choice.

According to Reuters, Howard Stringer told Die Welt: "It's certainly been a difficult year but buying out a partner is never an easy thing. We have to work together again as we did two years ago."

He added that partnerships of this sort were in a constant state of "discussion and negotiation" and that the two companies were always trying to make the joint venture the most successful that it could be.

The most recent mobile phone to emerge from the partnership is the W980, which is specifically designed to attract music fans.

According to Sony Ericsson's website, the handset offers "richer bass" as well as better audio performance.
