Increasingly advanced mobile phone technology and the dropping cost of purchasing it has led to working while on the move becoming easier.
At least this is the claim of Renato Bottini, head of business at 3 UK, who believes that the increased options enable people to choose when and where they work.
He commented: "One of the previous barriers had been cost and that has been removed and it is now easy, cost effective and productive to work whilst mobile."
Mr Bottini added that mobile phone technology has now become integrated into day-to-day life and that its use enables people to be more "productive and flexible".
According to the Vodafone Critical Response Time Index for 2008, one in seven firms now demand a response to enquiries within 30 minutes to avoid losing business.
This is in contrast to last year, when generally companies had a window of one or two hours to answer.
