Some 57 per cent of UK mobile phone users are using their phone in the same way they did in 2003, a new survey suggests.
The results, released by say what this organisation is AppTrigger, show that calls and texts still dominate mobile phone use, with only 22 per cent of users having tried location-based services.
Vice-president of marketing at Apptrigger Patrick Fitzgerald blamed mobile phone operators for the lack of take-up of new technology.
"The numbers reinforce the message that youths are being bred to use the phone like a mobile device, rather than a stand-in computer as many technologists are trying to push," said Mr Fitzgerald.
Meanwhile, next week's 2008 Global Mobile Awards will honour products and services in the industry, with nominees for best handset including Nokia's 6500 Classic, Samsung's SGH-G600 and the W910 Walkman Phone from Sony Ericsson.
The LG Viewty and 3 Skype phone are also nominated, with 3 also receiving acknowledgment for its 3 Like Home roaming service.
