As some mobile phone users look for the best deal, the new head of BT consumer business has suggested that many are paying too much, reports the Guardian.
John Petter has asked for the industry regulator Ofcom to deal with the issue, claiming that mobile customers are paying too much every year.
"The mobile companies are setting the termination prices well in excess of their costs. Customers are being overcharged to the tune of £1 billion," said Mr Petter, highlighting the need to find the best deal.
He made the comments ahead of a Competition Appeal Tribunal meeting, which will look at findings from mobile phone operator 3 suggesting that mobile termination rates are too high.
New packages were revealed by 3 earlier in the year, which gave mobile phone customers unlimited texts on the £25 and £35 tariffs, along with free phones such as the Nokia 6500 slider.
