Mobile phone customers are being offered a greater range of sim-only deals that are "perfect" for cutting bills, it has emerged.
Pay-monthly sim-only contracts provide similar packages to traditional long-term contracts, but issue customers with a new sim card to insert into their existing phones rather than providing a new mobile handset.
This will allow customers to move more freely to new suppliers and take advantage of varying offers and prices, reports the Guardian.
T-Mobile, for example, offers 500 minutes of talk time plus unlimited texts for £20 per month, or 1,400 minutes and unlimited texts for £30 per month.
Steven Mitchell, T-Mobile's head of contract marketing, told the newspaper sim-only deals fill a gap in the market between pay-as-you-go and long-term contracts.
"You could say it's perfect in the current economic climate. For anyone who has just come out of contract and is happy to carry on using their existing phone, the value on offer is amazing," he said.
Last month T-Mobile became the first mobile phone provider to offer unbeatable minutes on its £30 a month contracts.
