'More mobile chat' on public transport

'More mobile chat' on public transport

By Editorial Team (Monday, 7th April 2008)

Mobile phone users are happy to discuss details of their private and working lives on public transport, according to research by Vodafone.

As the mobile phone operator announced improved network coverage on some Virgin Trains, it has revealed that 70 per cent of workers will discuss business while travelling in public, with only six per cent using code names.

Meanwhile, it was also shown that 26 per cent of those asked would follow up a lead they had accidentally overheard.

Chief executive of Vodafone UK Nick Read commented: "Our customers tell us they want the best service possible, and need to be able to keep in touch with family, friends or colleagues when on the move."

It was also shown that mobile users were reticent about discussing their own romances, with only one in five willing to discuss their own love lives in public, although 60 per cent would discuss other's affairs.

Vodafone has already acted on the increased need for constant communication, after announcing a mobile mast sharing scheme with Orange for improved coverage throughout the UK.
