Mobile phone users can become severely stressed when they find themselves out of signal, according to a study by YouGov.
It was revealed that 53 per cent of people were affected by anxiety over issues such as no coverage, a dead battery or lost handset, reported the Press Association.
One in five mobile phone users find being out of contact as stressful as moving house - part of a phenomenon dubbed "nomo-phobia".
Head of telephony at the Post Office Stuart Fox-Mills explained: "Whether you run out of credit or battery, lose your phone or are in an area with no reception, being phoneless and panicked is a symptom of our 24/7 culture."
Those worried about staying in touch may wish to research the coverage offered by mobile phone operators and be interested in developments such as the collaboration between Orange and Vodafone.
Earlier this year, the two companies announced they would be sharing mobile masts in a bid to improve signal for customers and reduce the number of sites needed.
