Recent figures have shown that the number of sales of mobile phones in the UK has risen by 14 per cent in the past year.
A study by GfK and GFU revealed that the Britain is currently Europe's largest buyer of consumer electronics, accounting for 22 per cent of the market, reports Mobile Entertainments.
The growth may come as a surprise to some, given that the market value of the products has dropped by over ten per cent during the first half of 2008.
However, this has opened up a new market according to Hans-Joachim Kamp, chief executive of Philips, who said that the drop in prices has allowed a larger number of people to upgrade their electronics on a more regular basis.
In related news, Vodafone has recently announced that it will open 50 new high street stores in the UK over the next financial year.
This will take the number of stores that the company has to 400. The first new retail spots will be opened at Bristol Cabot Circus and White City London.
