Overview Specifications Pros Vs Cons
The Motorola K1, also known as the KRZR, is the stunning sequel to the ground breaking RAZR that manages to overcome the frankly hideous name to make quite an impression. Users of the RAZR will instantly recognise some of the design features that have put into place on the KRZR. The old flat etched keypad makes a return along with the same navigation pad. That’s where the similarities end on the design front as the K1 has some radical changes inside and outside.

Firstly the Motorola K1 has done away with some of the RAZR’s not inconsiderate width. Motorola has shaved more than 1 cm off the total width of the phone whilst retaining the same slim line look. This makes the K1 much more comfortable in your hand and saves some much needed pocket space. The top of the K1 is covered with glass that is said to be resistant to scratches (how long for it remains to be seen). The handset comes in a variety of colours and they all have the same crystalline finish.

The Motorola K1 uses the same dual display system as the RAZR. The legibility of the external display is very impressive in low lighting conditions but it is almost invisible in the sun. The glass panel is also a magnet for fingerprint smudges so it will require frequent cleaning to stay legible. The main display is much better although it does have some text issues in the camera menu.

The main improvement to the old RAZR V3 comes with the addition of a two megapixel camera. Unfortunately it is a bit of a hollow improvement as the pictures the K1 is capable of taking are pretty abysmal when you compare it to other two megapixel handsets. The camera has no LED so you really can only get legible photos in perfect conditions and even then they are not much better than the old VGA snaps you used to get on the V3. On the whole it will fulfil most of your camera needs up to a point but don’t expect too much.

The K1 also features an MP3 player to help keep you entertained although it does not come with a wire headphone connection which seems to be an odd design decision. Even worse is the user software which has not been updated since the V3, getting to the MP3 player requires several button presses that are just unnecessary. It seems like this feature was just tacked on and user navigation was an afterthought. Although the K1 only has 20MB of memory it does have a microSD card slot which is good as you’ll definitely need it.

The phone is good but the the memory is very poor for alot of people strandeds and motorola really needs to do something about that. I know its not a walkman phone but Samsung is a a high leading brand with out walkman type of phone and still a axcepttable memory so that is 100% un appectable. But over all alot of editing need to the Motorola k1

Having had this phone for only 7 months I have had to have the phone sent away for a total re set as it was not delivering/sending text messages without a hugh time delay sometimes up to 12 hours which has caused some serious issues on arrangements with people not to mention the embarassment of looking like I have sent text messages at ridiculous times of the day. The phone was totally re set, new sim card ie basically re built and had only lasted 7 weeks before it started doing the same again. The glass screen just shattered for no apparent reason which is a common fault reported on the user website but Motorola refuse to deal with the problem and state it is customer damage. Whilst the phone looks good and is very easy to use it is by far the least reliable phone I have ever had in the 10 years + I have been owning mobile phones.
