The Motorola V3 - the original RAZR - made waves upon its release into the UK market, ushering in a new generation of ultra-slim design handsets. Now, with the RAZR2 V8, Motorola are set to raise the bar even higher with an even more powerful handset that is, unbelievably, slimmer, sharper, and more durable than previous RAZR incarnations whilst including a number of improvements over previous versions.
It's often said that if it ain't broke don't fix it - this much is true of the RAZR2 V8. The same metallic finish and layout of previous versions returns, and little has changed in terms of phone operation. The call and cancel buttons are in the same place, and the now-traditional circular Motorola menu wheel sits proudly at the top of the main phone menu. Everything that was great about the original is present here in an enhanced and improved form. The main display on the RAZR2 V8 measures 2.2" and has a display res of 240 x 320 - it is one of the sharpest display screens we've seen on any mobile handset.
Much attention has also been given to the 2" 240x320 exterior panel on the RAZR2 V8, a feature on flip phones such as this usually relegated to tasks such as displaying battery life, time and signal display. The new model RAZR2s come equipped with exterior display panels boasting touch-sensitive soft keys for music play, meaning you can pause and skip audio tracks without having to have the handset open and the main screen active all the time.
Speaking of audio tracks, the RAZR2 V8 is a multimedia device that can play back the most popular audio files (MP3, AAC and AAC+) and boasts 420MB of internal memory which can be expanded by a further 2GB using microSD cards. Stereo playback on the RAZR2 V8 is either by a wired headset or Bluetooth stereo.

RAZR2 V8 comes with a number of connectivity options, allowing users to connect their phone to devices using either a micro USB connection or a Bluetooth connection between platforms. The Bluetooth wireless technology supports stereo Bluetooth A2DP, and the user can make use of a wireless connection radius of thirty feet. EDGE support is included for basic web browsing, high speed file transfer and downloads, and the trademarked MotoSync™ feature, which allows the user to synchronise their email, phonebook & calendar over the air, comes installed to boot.
The camera is probably the most disappointing aspect of the V8 - 2 Megapixel with 8 x digital zoom - 2 Megapixels is pretty much standard camera fare these days so if you're after the best quality images available, you might want to consider something else. This aside, the RAZR2 V8 is a welcome addition to the marketplace from a manufacturer who have consistently come out on top in terms of innovative design and usability. Motorola's history of creating visually appealing handsets has been continued with the RAZR2 V8.
The battery provides just over 8 hours of talk time and up to 280 hours of standby time from a fully charged battery. Obviously use of the multimedia features puts a strain on this, so expect to have to charge the phone ever other day or so.

Excellent build quality and design. Very good sound, superb screen.
But the phone has some poor features, an outdated menu, no 3G and poor implementation of the touch screen
