Although this phone may lack the media functionality of other Motorola handsets, the W220's appeal lies in its stylish facade and interface. Simple effective communication is the focus of this handset and for many that is what matters most.

Like the first Motorola RAZR phone, the W220 is something of a flip phone veteran; released way back in 2006, the W220 is a stylish compact flip phone which paved the way for many of the popular clamshell handsets of the years to come.
Like the first Motorola RAZR phone, the W220 is something of a flip phone veteran; released way back in 2006, the W220 is a stylish compact flip phone which paved the way for many of the popular clamshell handsets of the years to come. The design is clean and simple - the exterior display shows you battery life, incoming calls and messages.
The W220 is still available in the market, and has become something of an all-time favourite amount young buyers and the fashion conscious due to its timeless design and relative inexpense. Even when it was released, the W220 was one of those phones which seemed to be a phone phone first and an entertainment phone second.
Whilst this compact little handset allows you to download content and listen to your favourite stations with its built in FM radio, the audio player in the W220 is not compatible with MP3 (although it can handle other types of audio such as MIDI). That said, with just 500KB worth of memory, it's not like you'll be able to fit the complete works of Yes or Emerson Lake and Palmer on the W220.
Like we said, the W220 is primarily a phone; 500KB equates to about 600 phonebook entries, 10 dialled numbers, 10 missed calls and 10 received calls in the call records and 250 messages in the inbox. You can customise alerts for messages and assign ringtones to specific numbers - all standard mobile phone fare really, although it is worth mentioning that the W220 was one of the last handsets which allows users to compose their own ringtones. Whilst we're on that subject, how come so-called smartphones these days don't let you do that" It's not like it's beyond their capabilities... As the W220 boasts polyphonic ringtone capabilities, you get 32 channels to play with in the composer.
The W220 also suffers from a lack of connectivity options - no Bluetooth. USB support is available, but no cable comes included and due to the age of the phone, finding a cable could prove tricky. That said, the distinct lack of features which we now take for granted these days means that the W220 is totally dependable as a phone - it makes calls, it makes texts, battery life is great, it doesn't need to be in a Wi-Fi hot spot to do what it does...
Nice clamshell design and FM radio.
The W220 really has very few features to speak of.
Although this phone may lack the media functionality of other Motorola handsets, the W220's appeal lies in its stylish facade and interface. Simple effective communication is the focus of this handset and for many that is what matters most.
