Overview Specifications Pros Vs Cons
You could be forgiven for thinking that you had seen the Nokia 3109 classic before. It bears a slight resemblance to the old 6233 model. But in technical terms the Nokia 3109 classic and the 6233 are very different animals. At first glance you can see that the Nokia 3109 classic does not mess around, it has a real back to basics feel. The keypad has a large and friendly looking appearance, which is backed up by the highly responsive and easy to use buttons. Nokia have even included soft keys which can be tailored to suit your needs! These buttons make it very easy to navigate through the 3109 classic’s intuitive menu software. While using the menu it’s difficult not to be impressed by the 3109’s 1.8 inch colour display. This screen certainly stands up to supposedly more illustrious models. It is clear and bright as well as viewable in most lighting conditions, so any animated wallpapers will certainly come to life.

The no frills appearance of this mobile phone can be slightly deceiving as the 3109 has a built in XHTML web browser that will enable you to get your information on the move. Although it has to be said that without 3G compatibility it can be painfully slow! The 3109 classic also includes an instant messaging service which allows you to send massages to other users who are online. It’s similar to other well known messaging services that are available and widely used, so it is a useful bonus for the 3109 to have. But core functionality remains the key as the Nokia 3109 classic also weighs in with solid tri band coverage and up to 4 hours of talk time.

The Nokia 3109 classic also has an inbuilt MP3 player that will support a wide variety of formats. The software used to port your tracks over is very user friendly and the player itself is decent, if a little unspectacular. The MP3 player is aided by the 9MB of internal memory which is upgradeable using the microSD card slot. But the media facilities on the 3109 do not end there. You can also enjoy video playback as the 3109 classic supports some of the major video formats that are currently available (MP4 & H263 are among them). Playback on the 3109 is very good for a supposedly ‘basic’ mobile phone.

The Nokia 3109 is certainly a handset that believes in the bare essentials, a perception that is reinforced when you consider the lack of a built in camera. For many this will prove to be a big turn off, but the media capabilities of the 3109 do help to make up for this deficiency. All in all it has to be said that the Nokia 3109 classic is a mobile phone that makes core functionality its priority.
