The Nokia 6120 is a classically designed 3G smartphone with brushed metal-look highlights in black, white or pink. At just 15mm thick and weighing a mere 89g, the phone is compact and easily fits into a bag or pocket. To say it’s ordinary looking is an understatement. There is no wow factor; like most other Nokia’s on the market, its uninspired casing merely produces a resigned shrug. But behind it's dry, utilitarian shell, the 6120 is hiding some impressive technical features.
A screen with a very high resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and 16 million colours dominates the front panel. The display is large enough to read a text message properly, but fonts come out quite small – something to bear in mind if you’re short-sighted. The keypad is well laid out, and a hinge-mounted back cover gives easy access to the microSD card slot.
While it can’t be classified as a top-end phone, the Nokia 6120 comes with a variety of features that will keep most people happy. This high-spec 3G symbian smartphone outstrips even the N73 in some respects. The in-built camera is rated at 2 megapixels and comes with an LED flash. In terms of picture quality it is nothing special, but MMS messages come out fine, and video calling through a separate VGA lens is also possible. The music player that can handles all of the common formats - MP3, M4A, eAAC+, and WMA - and there's a built-in FM radio too. Audio quality is good, even with the supplied headphones, and stereo Bluetooth means you can listen to your music wirelessly. The choice of a 2.5mm headphone jack strikes s as a little odd, since most headphones fit a 3.5mm slot, but you can buy an adaptor. An internal memory of 35 Mbytes lets you store half a dozen songs, which can be expanded to a generous 2 Gbytes with a microSD card.
The quadband handset supports HSPDA connectivity for super-speedy web browsing. Quick Office, for Microsoft documents and Adobe PDF reader are pre-installed and enable you to view email attachments. Moreover, you can download additional third party applications onto your handset. A cool new feature is Text-to-speech which lets the phone read your text messages and emails out loud – useful if you find the fonts a little small. A mini-USB port replaces the proprietary Nokia Pop-Port so you can connect it to your PC.
If you’re on a budget but still want to enjoy 3G connection speeds then the 6120 is worth checking out. Whilst you can certainly get cheaper handsets, the phone comes with a range of handy features, and is well designed and easy to use.
Feature packed 3G handset.
The 6120 doesn't have a great deal of style about it.
