Samsung E250

The Samsung E250 is a smart-looking entry level phone with a lot of features for this price range (under £50 on PAYG). This chic slider, available in pink and silver, comes with a camera, FM radio, Bluetooth and a memory card slot for storing loads of music. Weighing just 81g, the handset is slim and easy to use, and is similar in look and feel to the popular top-of-the-range Samsung E900. At 0.3 megapixels the camera and video recorder are pretty low-fare (you're looking at 2-5 Megapixel for top-end cameras) but the MP3 player, which can handle AAC and AAC+ formats, is very good quality; the small internal memory of 13MB can be expanded using the microSD card slot.

The phone supports both Bluetooth and USB, enabling you to exchange games and ringtones with other phone users, as well as transferring files to and from a computer. You can also connect to the internet via CPRS and EDGE. MMS and Email are supported. Other features include polyphonic ringtones, voice memo and speakerphone. For an entry-level phone the Samsung E250 is great value for money, looks cool and comes with a range of fun features.

The E250 will be anathema to those obsessed with bleeding edge Smartphone gadgetry, but ambrosia to those who want their phone to simply be a phone and not an overpriced Swiss Army knife.
