The F300 is the latest in the 'ultra' line of phones from Korean giants Samsung. It comes complete with a big advertising launch with Beyonce Knowles. But does this handset cut the mustard?

Samsung of late have not shied from launchi ng experimental handsets. The X830 had a novel twist opening feature and the F300 keeps up this trend with it's innovative dual face form. One side is a dedicated music player, to handle your entertainment needs and the other side handles the basic phone functions.

If you look at the 'media' side of the phone first you'll see that the F300 features 128MB of memory and it has a microSD card slot. This gives plenty of room for track storage, even if it doesn't threaten your I-pod/MP3 player. Sound is crisp and clear and the handset also supports stereo bluetooth with A2DP. The device is not 3G compatible but files can still be downloaded relatively smoothly, as the F300 is an EDGE class 10 handset. An FM radio is also thrown into the entertainment mix and the 2 megapixel camera is easy to use, if a little pedestrian in the age of 5 megapixel phones.

On the 'phone' side of the handset it has to be said that the display is a bit small (around two lines) but battery life is good and call quality is clear.

The F300 is a radical experiment in phone form. The feature set is on the basic side but manages to fulfill it's obligations capably and with a minimum of fuss.
