The Sony Ericsson G502 is the latest Sony Ericsson handset announced this year. It would be easy to get lost in the sheer number of upcoming handsets from the manufacturing giant but the G502 has just enough features to prevent that from happening.
The Sony Ericsson G502 is the latest Sony Ericsson handset announced this year. It would be easy to get lost in the sheer number of upcoming handsets from the manufacturing giant but the G502 has just enough features to prevent that from happening. The G502 actually resembles a mixture of the previously announced G900 and the G700. The candybar design makes a comeback as expected and the buttons on the keypad are very similar to the buttons that graced the G900. But it appears that Sony Ericsson have decided to ditch the reverse terracing for the G502 in favour of a more flat keypad layout. With a thickness of 13.5mm the G502 has a nice ergonomic feel and is definitely pocket friendly.
Sony Ericsson has marketed the G502 as a phone for the web and it is definitely not just hype. With the G502 you can access your webmail and configure the phone to POP3/IMAP client email, similar to a blackberry. Currently the trend for handsets is to be HSDPA compatible and the G502 certainly doesn't disappoint in this area. Web browsing is a pleasurable experience thanks to the speed of HSDPA and the browser software, which should be familiar to most Sony Ericsson devotees.
The G502 also has an inbuilt two megapixel camera, not much can be said about it other than the fact that it is adequate but hardly spectacular. But as the G502 has not been marketed as a camera handset, it is easy to forgive this particular flaw. The G502 also includes the usual roster of multimedia capabilities in Sony Ericsson's excellent media player software. The media player is compatible with all major file formats. To handle your favourite tracks and other files the G502 has 32MB of internal memory and a memory stick micro card slot.
In conclusion the Sony Ericsson G502 offers features to almost every type of user. But you couldn't say that it was outstanding in any one area in particular. But that isn't to say that the G502 is a bad handset. Quite the opposite as the G502 manages to blend some great hi tech functionality with a phone that won't alienate the silent majority of users who don't care about megapixels.
Full web connectivity on the move thanks to HSDPA compatibility.
A handset of this specification should have a better camera.
