Sony Ericsson's K660i is a handset that is pitched at mid level users and it has the usual Sony Ericsson design motifs. The front of the K660i is neat and elegant, if a little uninspiring. The small circular keys are reminiscent of the K810i but they have a far more retro feel. The buttons are very responsive and have a highly tactile feel and the backlight present on the keypad means that operating the handset in the dark is a breeze. The back panel of the handset is made of plastic and the sides have a metallic finish, which gives the handset a nice texture while it is in your hand.
The Sony Ericsson K660i boasts super-fast HSDPA connectivity (up to 3.6Mbps), meaning that web access on the move is a breeze - pages can be viewed in either landscape or portrait format, across the compact 2 inch 240x320 pixel screen. The Access Netfront Web Browser app also makes surfing the web that much easier. The app has an integrated virtual mouse pointer that enables you to mark & copy and perform very basic web browser functions. It has to be said that it doesn't add a massive amount but the K660 certainly has better web browsing capabilities than certain other better known handsets.
Among the features included on the K660i are Google Maps, a Mega Bass-enhanced Walkman 3.0 player, FM radio and, as it's a Sony Ericsson, TrackId music recognition software. The K6601 is the beneficiary of 32MB of on board memory, further expandable via the trusty old M2 memory card slot, making it a decent choice for serious audiophiles. Naturally, both Bluetooth and USB connectivity options come included for optimum cross-platform file distribution.
Perhaps less impressive is the 2 Megapixel camera, which comes with a 4 x zoom and resolution of 1600x1200 pixels; actually not bad as it's statistics suggest, but there are certainly more powerful camera phones out there if taking pics is your thing. Nevertheless, the resolution and display is more than adequate for making video calls, facilitated courtesy of the front-mounted secondary camera. What does stand out is the image browsing software in the user interface which has the excellent Sony Ericsson media centre software that is present on the newer cyber shot phones.
Maybe a phone can please all the people, all of the time. The Quad-Band K660i is available in a range of colour schemes; sleek and stylish Silver and Black, luxurious Wine on Black, Blue on Black or a neat White Lime green slimline design.
Great front panel design. HSDPA compatibility for high speed downloads and an MP3 player.
Average two megapixel camera.
