The Walkman phone family is ever expanding and one of the latest family members is the W610i.
It's fair to say that the W610 is the little brother to the W880i. 3G support has been left out. But you will be pleased to hear that the quality of the Walkman brand has been upheld.
The W610i certainly has a distinctive and sleek look. Visually the handset comes across as a sort of hybrid of the W880i and the old W810i. It has an ergonomically contoured candy bar design with curved sides and edges that fits snugly in your hand. The keypad has been transported straight from the W880i, though some subtle differences indicate that Sony Ericsson have learnt various lessons from the older design. The irritatingly small buttons remain but the keypad on the whole seems a lot less cramped. Because of the spacing the keys seem a bit longer than on the W880i so texting is an altogether less frustrating experience.
The W610i also manages to match the W880 in the camera stakes. A two megapixel snapper with digital zoom, flash and video recording capabilities is included. The camera also has an autofocus feature and is capable of producing good quality images. The TFD LCD display manages to display your shots at an excellent resolution. The photo browsing software on the W610i will be familiar to anyone who has used a recent Sony Ericsson handset and it is a delight to use.
The media features of the W610i are clearly its main attraction. The MP3 player is of excellent quality and you also have a built in FM radio should you get bored of your own tracks. The W610i features the new Walkman 2.0 media player, complete with the popular ‘MegaBass’ equalizer preset. The music recognition software that has been included is also useful. Simply record a few seconds of a track, press track ID and you will be messaged with the name of the artist, track and album title.
The W610 has 64MB of internal memory and it has a M2 card slot which will come in useful should you need more room. Included with the phone is a 512MB card so there is plenty of space to get you started.
Highly distinctive look and feel, great user interface.
No 3G compatibility.
