For a mid range handset the W810i offers a great deal. Its sporty looks, combined with its roster of features make it the perfect phone for users who want multimedia functionality but are not necessarily concerned about 3G connectivity.

The Sony Ericsson W810i is the younger sibling of the Sony Ericsson W800 and it looks a whole lot meaner than its predecessor.
The Sony Ericsson W810i is the younger sibling of the Sony Ericsson W800 and it looks a whole lot meaner than its predecessor. The W810i has virtually the same dimensions as the W800 and retains the same candy bar form. But the first thing that strikes you is the more aggressive feel of the design. Gone is the neutral white colouring of the W800i; instead the W810i has a matte black finish. The camera lens is mounted in the back of the handset and it is definitely not as swollen as on the W800 although it does not come with a protective lens cover so dirt is a bit of an issue.
The keypad on the W810i has large and responsive keys, texting is a breeze and accidental button presses are thankfully rare. The handset does not have the usual Sony Ericsson joystick; instead the W810i has a navigational pad in the centre of the handset, just below the screen. The navigational pad is surrounded by Walkman shortcut keys. Right on the edge of the phone there is a key which will take you directly to the music player and the soft keys around the pad perform various context sensitive functions.
The main selling point of the W810i is obviously the Walkman media player. The player runs smoothly thanks to the excellent user interface software that is present on the phone. The interface will be familiar to those of you who have used a Sony Ericsson handset before. The Icons are similar but they have been given a more funky feel and the software includes four preinstalled themes to match your mood.
The media player software supports all the major file formats (not MP4) and USB connectivity is seamless. You transfer sound files to the W810i by using the ‘Disc2Phone’ software, which is relatively easy to use. Sound quality through the supplied headphones is good but to get the best quality it might be worthwhile purchasing an extra set.
The two megapixel camera on the W810i actually works surprisingly well. Difficult lighting conditions are handled by the LED flash. The W810i won’t worry any of its high end rivals but it is one of the best two megapixel cameras around. Further media features for you to play with include the FM radio with RDS and various games.
Strangely alluring sporty looks. Fantastic MP3 player that is very easy to use.
Only 20MB of internal memory.

The W810i is a simple phone with good functionality and great features. It will fit in any pocket, is fairly robust and has a great music player.
Limitations are that it gets really slow the more data you keep on it and that the text message storage is quite low.
