Sky Mobile is a relatively new player in the mobile phone market, being introduced only back in January 2017.

Since then, the company has looked to make their mark in the industry, coming up with new ways to make their service more enticing to potential customers.

The way in which they do this is with flexibility, offering more freedom for their customers in their contracts than most other providers.

Find out how that works and other information as we answer some of the most asked questions about Sky Mobile, including the big one - is Sky Mobile any good?

Which network is Sky Mobile using?

Sky Mobile don’t have their own specific network connection. Like their competitors, they share a network from one of the four main providers (O2, EE, Three and Vodafone).

As they are virtual network, Sky Mobile uses O2’s service to provide a connection. This is the same as GiffGaff, who are one of their biggest rivals.

Are Sky Mobiles unlocked?

All phones with Sky Mobile come unlocked, which means if you already have a SIM plan with another provider, you can use that with a phone bought through Sky.

This does come with some confusion, as when you go to buy a phone through Sky, it will automatically take you to their SIM plans. Unfortunately, you can’t get around this and you will have to opt into a plan with Sky.

However, like with all SIM cards, when you get your Sky Mobile SIM, you have to activate it first to be able to unlock it and start the contract.

If you don’t want to use the Sky Mobile SIM plan, then all you have to do is not activate it. After 30 days, it will automatically cancel, leaving you with just the phone to pay.

So as long as you don’t activate your Sky Mobile SIM when you get it, you won’t have to pay for the plan which comes with a 12-month minimum term.

Does Sky Mobile have free roaming in Europe?

Sky are somewhat down on their competitors in this factor, as they do not have free roaming in Europe.

If you are going away on holiday, you will need to get a Roaming Passport Plus pass. This pass allows you to access your UK data, calls and texts in 55 countries around the world, which includes EU nations.

The Roaming Passport Plus costs £2 a day, so it can add up during the course of your holiday.

You’ll also want to check your spend cap limit, as the pass as well as any roaming charges, international calls and text charges will count as charges outside of your plan.

The spend cap limit is there to stop you from spending more than you want to outside your plan, and it can be changed anytime you want.

Does Sky Mobile get added to your bill?

If you are already a Sky customer with broadband and/or TV, you may think that you Sky Mobile bill will get added to your other bills.

This is not the case, though, as Sky Mobile is billed separately from any other service you may have with the company.

What benefits do you get with Sky Mobile?

The benefits of being with Sky Mobile are mainly to do with ease and convenience. Sky are renowned for their excellent customer service with broadband and TV, and that follows over to mobile as well.

As for actual benefits, the biggest one that was and still in some ways is quite revolutionary compared to their competitors is Sky Piggybank.

With Sky Piggybank, any of your data that is left over at the end of the month will be added to a piggybank, or a pot.

That pot will store the data for up to three years. In that time, you can go in and take out as much data as you want for free.

This can also be shared with anybody on your Sky Mobile family plan if you have one. The family plan works by having one Sky Mobile account with multiple SIM’s on the account.

Is Sky Mobile any good?

In summary, Sky Mobile offers a great service that does indeed rival other competitors.

There are some downsides, such as the fee for European roaming, but aside from that they aren’t down on their competitors.

In terms of offerings and pricing, Sky Mobile is as competitive as they come. Their SIM-only deals do come out slightly above others, but full phone and SIM plans work out to be priced similarly to others.

Pair that with the benefits we described earlier and the value for money with Sky Mobile is fantastic.
