Our Apple iPhone 17 Pro Review

The iPhone 17 Pro is Apple’s premium pick for 2025, and it certainly delivers enough upgrades that people who skipped the last refresh might finally have a reason to upgrade. With a new design, more powerful internals and significant camera improvements, it builds on what the 16 Pro did well - while addressing a few of its weaker areas.

iPhone 17 Pro: Design & Display

This time around, Apple has swapped out the titanium frame in favor of an aluminium unibody, with a new full-width ‘camera plateau’. This isn’t just for looks either, as it helps with cooling and durability.

The front glass now uses Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple claims is significantly more scratch-resistant, and the display is much more impactful, especially in bright sunlight - peak outdoor brightness gets a boost to around 3,000 nits, as opposed to 2,000 in the 16 Pro.

iPhone 17 Pro: Camera

All three rear lenses (wide, ultra-wide and telephoto) are now 48MP, which means more detail, especially in low light. The telephoto also supports both 4x optical zoom and an ‘optical‐quality’ 8x crop, effectively providing more usable zoom without (only) digital interpolation.

Selfies are better too, thanks to an 18MP front camera with Center Stage, which helps in framing, especially in group snaps or video calls.

iPhone 17 Pro: Performance, Battery & Extras

Inside is the A19 Pro chip, which is built on a newer process node to provide better efficiency and smoother performance, even under load. Add in upgraded thermal design - hello vapor chamber cooling - and the 17 Pro is much better than its predecessors at handling sustained tasks without throttling.

Battery life sees a healthy bump too. It’s not outrageous, but provides more real-world lasting power, especially during video playback and heavier usage.

iPhone 17: What hasn’t changed?

Some features carry over from the 16 Pro with only moderate upgrades - for example, the ultrawide lens is still 48MP, but aperture and optical qualities have been improved incrementally.

If you heavily use a telephoto lens already, the shift to the new 4x/8x optical-quality zoom is great - but you’ll want to compare side by side with the older 5x to decide if the trade-offs matter.

iPhone 17 Pro: Our Verdict

If you’re someone who cares about cameras, display quality and long-term performance, the iPhone 17 Pro is a solid upgrade. For someone with an iPhone 16 Pro, you’ll definitely notice improvements - especially around zoom, brightness, and overall durability.

But whether it’s worth trading up depends a lot on how much you push your phone. If your priority is gaming or zoom photography, the 17 Pro shines; if your current phone already satisfies, the leap will be less dramatic.
