The new Google Pixel 9 Pro range has been extended to two variations, with the 9 Pro being the smaller of the pair. But that doesn’t stop it from being a stellar device.
Our Google Pixel 9 Pro Review
Google has once again hit it out of the park with the new Pixel 9 Pro, the best Pixel yet, with great upgrades to the hardware and a striking new design.
Google Pixel 9 Pro: Display
There isn’t too much of a difference in the display from the 9 Pro to the previous 8 Pro, other than brightness and resolution.
Google decided to introduce a new variation of the Pro model this year, the 9 Pro XL, which comes with the only difference between the 9 Pro and XL is its size.
So the 9 Pro comes in at 6.3 inches, matching the base 9, and thus has a resolution of 1280x2856 pixels.
As mentioned though, the brightness makes a difference, maxing out at 3000 nits compared to 2400 nits on the 8 Pro.
Google Pixel 9 Pro: Camera
The Pixel shines when it comes to its camera, and Google has realised this by keeping its rear setup the same as the previous iterations, with just some changes to aperture making the difference.
The selfie camera has been upgraded to 42MP over the 10.5MP on the 8 Pro, providing you with fantastically detailed double-chin accidental snaps.
Videos can be filmed in incredible 8K quality at 30fps now as well, with 4K now capable of 24, 30 and 60fps.
Google Pixel 9 Pro: Design
The Pixel 9 range has seen a proper redesign for the first time since the Pixel 6. Gone is the full-width rear camera bar, and instead a sort-of floating camera section.
It also isn’t as rounded on the edges, having more of a box feel similar to the iPhone.
Google Pixel 9 Pro: Performance
Powered by the new Google Tensor G4 processor, the Pixel 9 Pro is built to run Google’s AI models.
That takes up a lot of the load though, so you may not see a big upgrade in speed and overal performance from the 8 Pro if you like having multiple active tabs open. Even the 16GB of RAM doesn’t help speed the phone along very well.
As for battery life, it still shines in this department, giving you easy all-day life, although using the camera more often may drain it a bit faster. However, the overall charging speed could still be improved.
Google Pixel 9 Pro: Features
The Pixel 9 range comes with many new AI features, including the new Gemini Live, which is supposed to be a rival for ChatGPT, providing real-time answers and solutions to whatever you are asking for plus more.
The Pixel 9 Pro also comes in four different colours, with two providing just two storage options while the other two offer three options. The four colours are:

- Rose Quartz
- Obsidian
- Hazel
The Porcelain and Rose Quartz options come with the two storage options of 128GB or 256GB, while the Obsidian and Hazel options come with both of those or 512GB storage.

Google Pixel 9 Pro: Our verdict
The Google Pixel 9 Pro is a solid step up from the 8 Pro, building upon the AI features that are becoming more prevalent in phones of today.
The performance factor does dampen the device a touch, but it shouldn’t be enough to deter you away from going for this brilliant mobile.
