Samsung’s latest mid-range offering, the Galaxy A35 is a solid release that ticks all the usual boxes, even exceeding expectations in some key areas. But is it worth your time when there are so many other attention-grabbing devices out there?

Samsung Galaxy A35: Design

In terms of design the Galaxy A35 isn’t really trying anything new, but maybe that’s not such a terrible thing. What you get here is your typical modern Samsung smartphone, with a fairly large footprint and a smooth, flat edge.

Nothing fancy then, but the addition of glass on the front and back does lend it a more premium feel in hand. The A35 also comes in a range of colour options, including navy, lilac, pale blue and a particularly striking yellow.

It’s also worth noting that, unlike some of the cheaper A-series devices, the Galaxy A35 doesn’t come with a 3.5mm headphone jack. The only port included is a fairly standard USB-C on the bottom edge.

While this does make for a sleeker package, it might be a dealbreaker for those who haven’t yet made the switch to bluetooth headphones.

Samsung Galaxy A35: Display

The display is the main area where the A35 really shines - no pun intended. The device packs a large 6.6-inch Super AMOLED screen, bigger than most of its A-series siblings, with a rapid 120Hz refresh rate.

That bright AMOLED screen and snappy refresh rate make for a smooth, seamless scrolling experience, but the quality of the screen is most evident when watching videos. If you’re planning on kicking back with Netflix on your phone, you could do much, much worse than the A35.

Samsung Galaxy A35: Camera

The camera setup on the Galaxy A35 is about average for phones in this price range. You’ll find three rear cameras - a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide and a 5MP macro - and a serviceable 13MP selfie camera on the front.

The system works well in bright conditions, but starts to struggle in low light. Photos and videos are generally of good quality, but of course won’t hold a candle to those produced by higher-end devices.

Still, if the absolute best quality snaps aren’t a priority, the A35’s camera system would be more than adequate for everyday usage.

Samsung Galaxy A35: Performance

The Galaxy A35 is packing the same 5000mAH battery that you’ll find in most other devices in this price range. Not terrible by any stretch, and it’ll easily last at least a full day of normal usage before needing a charge.

Charging is a little slow, though, and there’s no wireless charging, which is perhaps to be expected with phones in this price range.

In terms of processing power, the A35 runs Samsung’s own Exynos 1380 chipset - which, incidentally, was previously used in last year’s Galaxy A54. It’s a decent processor that should be fit for most purposes.

It should even be able to deal with some pretty graphically-intensive games, like first-person shooters, with no issues. So if you’re a mobile gamer on a budget, there’s a lot to like here.

Samsung Galaxy A35: Features

Sadly - but unsurprisingly - there isn’t much to write home about when it comes to features on the Galaxy A35. You’ll get Samsung’s OneUI, of course, and all of the useful features associated with it. But you’ll also get Samsung’s usual bloatware.

How much is the Samsung A35?

If you buy outright, the Samsung Galaxy A35 will set you back around £339 with 128Gb storage or £389 with 256Gb.

It’s also worth noting that there are a lot of contract deals out there to help spread the cost, and Samsung themselves offers various financing and trade-in options to help make the device more affordable.

Samsung Galaxy A35: Our Verdict

It’s not breaking any molds, but the Samsung Galaxy A35 is a solid mid-range device with a few stand-out features that just about manage to elevate it above its peers.

Respectable battery life and processing power make up for any disappointment in the design department, and the display in particular is excellent - especially for those who enjoy watching movies and TV shows on the go.
