Samsung’s Galaxy S series of phones are some of the most popular around, and avid users will be thrilled to know the S22 and S22+ are both now available. Let’s see what all the fuss is about. 

Samsung Galaxy S22: Camera

The S22 gets a 3X zoom lens, the first Samsung phone in the S series to get one. See below for the main specifications:

Samsung Galaxy S22: Design

The first thing that is worth noting is how much smaller the Samsung Galaxy S22 is compared to the Samsung Galaxy S21:

• S22 - 146 x 70.6 x 7.6mm
• S21 - 151.7 x 71.2 x 7.9mm

The S22 is only 167g too, shifting a little bit of weight on the S21’s heftier 171g. The IP68 water and dust protection remains from its predecessor, which means your Samsung Galaxy S22 will survive rain and a drop in water (5 feet of fresh water). 

In terms of colour choices, the following are available for you to select: 

• Phantom White
• Pink Gold
• Phantom Green
• Phantom Black

However, if you shop from Samsung directly  you get access to 4 exclusive colours — Violet, Graphite, Cream, and Sky blue.

It’s worth mentioning there is no headphone jack, so USB-C headphones are required or a converter to allow you to use regular ones, along with the option of wireless, of course. 

Samsung Galaxy S22: Display

From corner to corner the Samsung Galaxy S22 is 6.1 inches with a 19:5:9 aspect ratio - slightly smaller than the S21’s slightly taller 20:9 and a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels.

The 120hz refresh rate combined with Samsung’s Dynamic AMOLED makes, as always, for a great viewing experience. 

Samsung Galaxy S22: Performance

The Samsung Galaxy S22+’s 3,700mAh battery is actually a downgrade compared to the 4,000mAh one used on the S21. As the drop isn’t huge, the impact on the S22’s battery life is minimal, but could raise question marks if you found the S21’s battery life a little bit lacklustre. With full use of streaming, you can expect around 7 and a half hours 

There are two sizes, a base 128GB model and a larger 256GB version that will inevitably set you back a bit more. 

In terms of the phone’s speed and general performance, the S22+ comes with the Samsung-made Exynos 2200 processor, which is disappointing to some fans as they’d have liked to have seen the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, which is only available in S22+models in the USA. 

How much is the Samsung Galaxy S22?

The device itself is £769 for the 128GB of storage and 8GB RAM version, or £819 for the 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM version. Both models come with a free pair of Galaxy Buds Pro, too, which might sway some users away from the disappointment of there being no headphone jack.

Samsung Galaxy S22: Our Verdict   

There’s no denying it’s a great flagship model, but in terms of an upgrade on the S21, it doesn’t offer as much as you think it would. But if you're looking for an upgrade from another phone in the S series and can look past the slight downgrade on battery life, Samsung's latest flagship model should be a serious contender.
