Our Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 Review

During their annual Galaxy Unpacked summer event, Samsung revealed the latest iterations of their flagship line, the Z Flip and Z Fold devices.

The new Flip7 - the series that harks back to the days of flip phones while incorporating the standard modern technology and features found in smartphones in 2025 - is proof of the tech giants’ constant evolvement with their products, producing a smaller-than-ever device that packs as big a punch as any of the other top-line mobiles.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7: Design

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 refines Samsung’s compact foldable formula with a slimmer, lighter build, particularly while folded.

Samsung were able to shave 1.2mm off to make the Flip7 just 13.7mm thick when folded. While that may not sound significant, it certainly makes a difference when in the palm of your hand or tucked snugly in your pocket. It has also been made thinner while unfolded, albeit this time by an admittedly minuscule 0.4mm.

As for the rest of the dimensions, it has grown all around ever so slightly, seeing it’s height raised from 165.1mm to 166.7mm while unfolded (it remains largely the exact same folded), while its width has seen the biggest jump, growing to 75.2mm, up from 71.9mm - certainly a noticeable difference.

You’d think then that the Flip7 must be heavier than that of its predecessor. In actual fact, while correct, it is only a single gram heavier, weighing just 188g.

As for durability, a lot of the features remain untouched: an IP48 dust and water resistance rating, Armor Aluminium frame, plastic front (the unfolded part) and Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7: Display

Samsung delivers a striking set of upgrades here, mainly on the cover display. The 6.9‑inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display with 120 Hz, HDR10+and 2600 nits peak brightness improves upon the Flip 6’s 6.7‑inch panel with better brightness and fluidity.

The cover display, though, has seen the largest and most beneficial improvements. It is larger, more responsive and more fluid, boasting a 4.1‑inch Super AMOLED FlexWindow cover screen now full‑width with the dimensions at 948 x 1048 pixels, making it an edge-to-edge display. It also features a 120 Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 2600 nits.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7: Camera

The Flip 7 maintains the same camera setup as its predecessor - a 50 MP wide lens with OIS and a 12 MP ultra-wide for the dual rear, plus the 10 MP front camera.

Video capture remains unchanged too - 4K at 30 and 60fps, 1080p at 60, 120 and 240fps, and 720p at 960fps for the rear camera. The selfie camera records 4K at 30 and 60fps.

While hardware remains largely unchanged, Galaxy AI brings enhancements like Generative Edit and AI-assisted processing, elevating everyday photo usage without a full overhaul of optics

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7: Performance

Samsung have gone back to using their own chipset, Exynos, for the Flip7 but have also innovated it to create their first foldable processor with the Exynos 2500 (3 nm).

The chipset is paired with 12GB RAM and either 256GB or 512GB UFS 4.0 storage - an upgrade in storage baseline compared to Flip6.

The Flip6 used the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy; while Exynos may trail behind in synthetic benchmarks, the Flip 7 delivers polished real-world performance and thermal efficiency thanks to improved cooling design.

Battery is also slightly improved - 4,300 mAh vs Flip 6’s 4,000 mAh - for enhanced longevity.

As standard with all newer flagship Samsung devices such as the Z series, the Flip7 runs the latest OS, which is currently Android 16, with One UI 8 and includes a generous 7 years of software updates.

How much is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7?

This is the less than appealing part as the Z Flip and Fold series do come at a significant markup thanks to their unique design (compared to standard smartphones) partnered with top-of-the-range specs and tech.

Thankfully - if you can even really say that - Samsung have kept the price the same on release as with the Flip6 when it was released, that being a starting cost of £1049, with the price varying depending on storage size.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7: Our Verdict

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 refines what made the Flip series appealing - compactness, style, and usability. Major upgrades include a noticeably larger, more usable cover display and a brighter, smoother main screen.

Cameras remain steady but not transformative, while performance benefits from the new in-house Exynos chip and efficient thermal design. The new and improved Galaxy AI tools further differentiate it from the previous generation.

That said, the Flip 7 is an evolutionary upgrade rather than revolutionary. Its style and innovation come at a cost, one that may only be justified for users prioritizing the latest foldable experience, software longevity, and seamless pocketability.
