The iPhone 14 is a slightly improved version of the iPhone 13 with all the familiar looks and feel of its predecessor, with the Plus, Pro and Pro Max looking like they’ve received the majority of work in the overhaul. So what’s changed? Let’s take a look.

Apple iPhone 14: Design & Display

Apple has left the iPhone 13's 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display pretty much the same on the iPhone 14, keeping the 2532 x 1170-pixel resolution at 460 ppi. The 14 and 14 Pro have the 6.1-inch display, with the Pro supporting a 120Hz display. The 14 Plus and Pro Max use the 6.7-inch display, with the Pro Max also supporting the 120Hz in the bigger, never-seen-before sized screen.

iPhone 13 lovers will be pleased to know the iPhone 14 is basically an exact replica. The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, however, vary in that they support the new Dynamic Island, which is a fungible zone that is home to both the TrueDepth module and display information.

Speculated to be constructed from Gorilla Glass Victus, the iPhone 14 and its variations are built with optimum durability, with the screen sporting the Ceramic Shield which will give users an added peace of mind, providing it with an extra level of protection.

The iPhone 14 might be the last Apple phone we see that houses the lightning port, as the company is being urged by the European Union to change the ports to USB-C by 2024. So, don’t worry, you’ll still be able to use all your existing cables for the iPhone 14!

The iPhone 14 and its variations will be available in midnight, blue, starlight, purple and (PRODUCT) RED.

iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus introduce an all-new 12MP Main camera, along with a larger sensor and larger pixels, a new front TrueDepth camera, the Ultra Wide camera, and Photonic Engine for a huge improvement in low-light performance.

The new dual-camera system includes:

According to Apple, the iPhone 14 Plus has the best battery life ever seen in an iPhone, with the iPhone 14 also having an upgrade in battery life over its predecessor, the iPhone 13.

Users might be frustrated to hear that the CPU is not new - the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus are still running on Apple’s one-year-old A15 Bionic, which is still the industry-leading mobile CPU however. The 6-core CPU and 5-score GPU join together to create an overall smooth performance, with the gaming experience on the devices being as good as ever. However, users who opt for the Pro and Pro Max will experience a device run on the A16 Bionic chip.

Apple iPhone 14: Features & OS

Apple has looked to improve its safety measures with the new iPhone 14, introducing Crash Detection. The new dual-core accelerometer is capable of detecting G-force measurements of up to 256Gs and a new high dynamic range gyroscope, Crash Detection on iPhone can now detect a severe car crash. When the crash occurs, the phone will assume the user is unconscious and unable to operate their phone and automatically dial emergency services. Quite a neat touch.

Emergency SOS via satellite is also a new feature, allowing you to communicate while outside with a clear view of the Sky when it is absolutely necessary. This feature starts with a free trial, and after some time (we’re unsure how long) you’ll have to pay for it.

iOS 16 is the operating system used for the iPhone 14 variations, which at first glance offers a far more personal lock screen experience, such as being able to mark messages as unread to remind the user to come back to them later! No excuses now…
